I love reading, i have since i was a child. I could fly through books. I remember when i was just out of Matric and i went to work on a farm (breeding Thoroughbred racehorses, my other love), in the evenings and weekends there wasn’t much to do (when it wasn’t foaling season) so i would read and read. My father bought me all the Harry Potter books and i loved them all.
Then when i was in a motorbike accident, lying in hospital for weeks on end, again my father came to my rescue and bought me all the Twilight books.
Its through books that i get my creative side with the stories and characters growing inside my head. I would really like to make it a reality.
So today i start a new “chapter” series. I love when others share the books they are currently loving, so i want to keep the chain going and share books i love and want to love when i get to read them (hopefully soon when my big order arrives)
I have many series i want to read, so instead of sharing every single one in this post, i will break it down and share a new chapter maybe once a month.
Red Queen Series – Victoria Aveyard
Genre: Fantasy / Dystopian
This is set in a world divided by blood color — red for ordinary people, silver for elites with supernatural abilities. Mare, a street urchin who steals to help her family survive, tries to save her best friend from being conscripted in the army. That quest lands her in a castle where, in front of the king and his court, she suddenly displays special powers — powers impossible for a Red. To hide this startling news and keep her under control, the king invents a past for Mare as a lost princess and sets her up to marry one of his sons. Mare becomes part of the Silver world but she also starts aiding the Scarlet Guard, who is plotting a Red rebellion. Mare becomes caught between these factions and her own heart as plans for the rebellion move forward.
I have read Red Queen which i loved and currently halfway with Glass Sword
The Remnant Chronicles – Mary E Pearson
Genre: Fantasy / Romance / Dystopian
A princess must find her place in a reborn world. She flees on her wedding day.
She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor’s secret collection. She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father. She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan. The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can’t abide. Like having to marry someone she’s never met to secure a political alliance….
I have ordered The Kiss of Deception, should be arriving roughly in the next 10 days
Scarpetta Series – Patricia Cornwell
Genre: Crime / Mystery / Thriller / Suspense
The Scarpetta novels include a great deal of detail on forensic science. The initial resolution to the mystery is found in the forensic investigation of the murder victim’s corpse, although Scarpetta does considerably more field investigation and confrontation with suspects than real-life medical examiners. The novels generally climax with action scenes in which Scarpetta and her associates confront, or are confronted by, the killer or killers, usually concluding with the death of the killer. The novels are considered to have influenced the development of popular TV series on forensics, both fictional, such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and documentaries, such as Cold Case Files
I have had the 1st book Postmortem for the longest time and never read it. My sister recently read it and recommended i do too. So i’m currently a couple chapters in and really enjoying it.
Throne of Glass Series – Sarah J Maas
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom….
This series has come highly recommended to me by a number of people. So i ordered book 1 with Takealot, so when i eventually get it (they said delivery around end of Sep), it will be the 1st book i start to read.
Robert Langdon Series – Dan Brown
Genre: Thriller / Mystery / Adventure / Conspiracy
A Harvard University professor of religious iconology and symbology (a fictional field related to the study of historic symbols, which is not methodologically connected to the actual discipline of semiotics). Brown’s novels that feature the lead character Robert Langdon also include historical themes and Christianity as motifs, and as a result, have generated controversy. Brown states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, though he is on a ‘constant spiritual journey’ himself, and says that his book The Da Vinci Code is simply “an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate” and suggests that the book may be used “as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith.”
Dan Brown by far is my favourite author. I first discovered his books when i was in high school and flew through his books. I’ve read both Deception Point and Digital Fortress, which are not part of the Robert Langdon saga, as well the first 3 books in the Robert Langdon saga and I’m half way through Inferno. Its the one book of his i’m struggling to get through, but i’m going to keep pushing on. His 5th book Origin is being released 03 October this year.
